Spend eleven intensive days working with the acclaimed Bay Brass
faculty and your fellow advanced brass players on the art of sound. Perform with the Bay Brass. Burnish
your sound, explore
new ways of thinking about ensemble and orchestral playing, unleash your potential
as a brass player. We offer a professional preparation seminar in which you play
side-by-side with symphony members. Daily practice, coachings, informal discussions
about professional careers, and
performance opportunities fill this nine-day institute.
• Brass Ensembles: focusing on quintet literature and other ensemble combinations;
intensive and supportive coaching prepares you for performance
• Private Lessons focusing on enhancing your technique and sound production
• Master Classes offered on
solo and
orchestral repertoire
• Professional Preparation Class: play in a brass section, side-by-side
with Bay Brass members in orchestral repertoire
• Festival Concert and Institute Performance opportunities
Summer Brass Institute at Menlo invites serious brass players to participate in this intensive week of symphonic brass and chamber music. In our fifth summer, we plan to invite more participants and increase opportunities, while maintaining the high caliber of coaching and performance. Our library keeps increasing every year, and for 2008 we'll have new music, including fresh arrangements, works by the Bay Brass and friends. Our excellent faculty remains unchanged, though our guest artists, Chris Martin and Gene Pokorny, from Chicago Symphony, are very special too! Study with award-winning brassplayers who convey an amazing concept of sound!
Festival Artist Faculty: The Bay Brass
Acclaimed soloists, orchestral musicians, and ensemble players, these brassplayers
have created a reputation for their unique sound: more powerful than loud,
the sound varies over the brass palette from a rich golden tone to an incisive
yet glowing presence which can infuse an entire orchestra or shine in solo
playing. Their specialty: coaching student brass quintets to develop a sense
of tonal integrity and to pass on their esthetic of sound. Come study with
these brilliant practitioners.
